I suppose this is why you write for Spike Magazine-- clearly your review of Pullman's work is so sub-standard it is no wonder no one else would have taken your review seriously.

"Theologically simple-minded and mythologicially dilute?" I'm sorry to say Mr. Harnett, but your attempt at a critical analysis comes off as nothing more than a smug high schooler attempting to justify themselves as an above-average writer. Had you actually read ANY of these books you may have begun to see that the book is teeming with both recognized and newly imagined mythological and religious characters. His understanding of some of the great classical works of antiquity and the middle to renaissance ages is profound and he justifies himself as a scholar of such material. No contemporary author can so cleverly combine nearly every type of literary genre and compile it into a series of works that are profoundly understandable.

There are professors in academia writing essays about Pullman's work. I've yet to come across one catalog for higher education material that does not include videos, essays, and other academic paraphernalia to use as a supplement in literature classes.

I suggest you become more learned in the great literary works and when you do, THEN perhaps you ought to give Pullman's novels another look-to.
In short, you have already given me the perfect quote to sum up your review, as mentioned earlier by Tokien. It really won't do.
