Similan Islands: An Eyewitness Scuba Diver Account
My friend Melissa, a dive instructor for Similan Diving Safaris, has written an account of her first scuba diving trip to the Similan Islands after the tsunami. As I've mentioned in the posts below, there's been a lot of talk about how damaged the dive sites are out at the Similans, widely regarded as one of the best dive spots in the world. However, from what Melissa says, it sounds like most of the Similan dive sites are pretty much intact - certainly you won't be disappointed if you go. If you're contemplating doing some diving overseas, I'd urge you to go to the Similans - it's a truly amazing place to dive and you will be helping the people of Thailand get back to normal just by being there on holiday. Contact my mate Joe at Similan Diving Safaris if you need further info about the diving, accommodation etc - he'll be happy to help you out.

Khao Lak is also looking for volunteers to help with the relief effort through tsunamivolunteer.net - they need native English speakers to help with their website and getting the word out about their activities, as well as to deal with data entry about missing persons etc. If you can bring your own laptop, that would be extremely helpful. I'm hoping to get involved when I get to Khao Lak in a couple of weeks, but by then they might be done. If you need any general info about Thailand etc, then email me.
