Bootleg T-Shirts This is my small homage to Preshrunk, one of my favourite blogs. Lindy and I found this t-shirt in Kota Kinabalu, the principal city of Malaysian Borneo. It cracked us up because it was a bit more direct than the demure, mainly Muslim, Malaysians possibly realised; like the rest of South East Asia, the Malaysians are fond of plastering t-shirts with Engrish phrases and, of course, bootlegging big brands. Holiday Fcuk seemed a glorious amalgamation of both trends in one unapologetically slutty pink package. Lindy bought two. There's a good twist to this story: we had originally seen the t-shirt when in KK backpacking in March last year. Inexplicably Lindy failed to buy it and eternally regretted it. Then, when we went back to KK for Christmas nine months later, we found the shop again and discovered they still had several HF t-shirts in stock - and they were on the sale rack. Get in! And, whilst still on the t-shirt tip: there's been a bizarre resurgence here in Thailand of classic punk t-shirt designs - the Jamie Reid Sex Pistols logo, The Exploited's Punks Not Dead and so on. In Hua Hin, I saw a very sophisticated middle-aged Thai lady walk by wearing a diamante studded t-shirt that bore the daubed punk legend "Fuck Off Wankers". I am eternally gutted that I didn't have a camera with me. More on t-shirts: Spike | Google | Amazon UK | Amazon US | Wikipedia | Open Directory [permalink] | [0 comments]
