Everyone has a book inside them…
Steve Mitchelmore (regular Spike contributor, learned literature chap and absolute shyster) just sent me this fantastic review of The Book of Kings by James Thackara. Philip Henscher wades in and does a pithy hatchet job on this allegedly long-awaited novel, complete with hilarious kiss-off line. It’s so refreshing to actually see a review in a national newspaper that properly savages mediocrity rather than mumbling faint praise and moving swiftly on.
