Their new album Rewind has been bubbling away on my headphones for the last week or so. It's undeniably from the Ninja Tunes stable, but while Rewind is perfectly pleasant to listen to, it's not quite all there. Breakbeats, dinky melodies, obligatory dialogue samples from kitsch films - they're all present and correct, but I can't help thinking I'm listening to something from 3 years ago. Perhaps it'll grow on me, but for now it's going to have a hard time rising to the top of my play pile when I've got the likes of Underworld's Everything, Everything and Eminem to play with. It's a pity as friends told me that Hexstatic's appearance at the Big Chill festival this year (which I foolishly didn't go to) was absolutely blinding.
