The Space Of Literature

For all the furore about unscrupulous authors and publishers hyping their own books using Amazon's Post A Review facility, it still remains a useful way of finding useful comment and analysis about books and records. I was waffling on a few days ago about how good the Amazon user comments on Stevie Wonder's fab Songs In The Key Of Life were, and Steve M has just pointed out that there's a fantastic summary of Maurice Blanchot's The Space Of Literature on there too.

The Space Of Literature is one of those truly essential books that you'll never get your head around but the beauty of the language means you probably won't care - even if it is in translation from the original French. It's also written in aphoristic style, with entries no more than a page and frequently less than a paragraph. As for what it's about - you'd better read the Amazon review.

On a different note, we have another Spike book competition running over on 2020shops.com - this time it's Life Without Genes by Adrian Woolfson, a facinating vision of the future. "Bringing together the latest insights from genetics and cyberculture, this book contends that all life can be conceived of as information. It explores future developments in genetics, both as a consequence of Darwinian natural selection and under the influence of genetic engineering," says the blurb. Full info on Amazon.co.uk. Of course, have a go at winning it before you decide to buy it...
