Sticky Fingers

Another snippet of info has emerged about Irvine Welsh’s next book, Glue, due for release in May 2001 as reported here previously. Robin Robertson at Random House says Glue is “a very ambitious, very successful novel, about the lives of four friends from the schemes - including the triumphant ‘Juice’ Terry (who will figure largely in the next novel) and the best dog torture & death so far.”

In the meantime, if you’re interested in finding out more about how Welsh came to be first published and the creative explosion in Scottish writing in the 1990s, you’d do well to have a look at Duncan McLean’s anthology Ahead Of Its Time. It contains Welsh’s first short stories alongside the likes of Alan Warner, James Kelman and Janice Galloway from the days of the Clocktower Press. There’s a good review of the anthology on FFWD Weekly and you can find it on Amazon.co.uk - the anthology doesn’t appear to be available from Amazon.com
