Review madness
Thanks to whoever sent me the URL for The Complete Review - a site with some 500 + book reviews. Or rather, some 500 + aggregated book reviews, providing a neat summary of what the quality press in both the UK and the US made of each title alongside the Complete Review’s own review. (Still with me? Good.) There’s also a plethora of links to other material about the author in question. An awful lot of work has gone into this site and it’s definitely worth checking out for near-definitive critical overviews of the titles they’ve covered so far.
Meanwhile, new game - What People Are Reading On The Tube. Over the last two days I’ve spotted these - Headhunters, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, The Films of Woody Allen and To Kill A Mockingbird. I’ve also resisted the temptation to stamp on people’s feet and pretend it was an accident so they’ll let go of the book they’re reading and stop obscuring the title with their fingers. But anyway. I’ve not read any of these four books - Mockingbird I’ve had sitting on the shelf for about 7 years, Harry Potter gets thrust at me by virtually every friend I have, reading about Woody Allen seems like missing the point and Headhunters could be fun. It’s great looking around at what people are reading on the Tube - it’s like a random generator to throw new things at you, books you never knew existed or even thought about. Now I’ve written this, I’ll probably not see another book on the way to work for the next week. Sigh.
