WG Sebald
If anyone’s reading this anymore, here’s a link, posted in a voice hoarse from long silence.
WG Sebald, the English-based German author, is interviewed in the New Yorker prior to the release of his latest novel Austerlitz. I was pleased he said that he writes without a programme: “I never liked doing things systematically. Not even my Ph.D. research was done systematically. It was done in a random, haphazard fashion. The more I got on, the more I felt that, really, one can find something only in that wayin the same way in which, say, a dog runs through a field.”
The book doesn’t appear until October, so if the publisher reads this, how about sending me a review copy?
