Miracles Do Happen
Finally, the new Spike update. Hurray. It’s far too late for me to start being witty, so just enjoy the plethora of new reviews and the vintage Ballard interview. There’s new stuff on irvinewelsh.com and jgballard.com too if you’re interested. A couple of interesting sites which have come my way - Diverse Books, which is a communal review posting site for SF and fantasy books, providing a pleasingly random and well-written mixture of stuff. There’s the just launched Cliterati too, which is a site of porn prose for women , launched by Emily Dubberly, who was/is involved with abctales.com. Be interesting to see how well it does and the reception it gets as it becomes more established.
There’s also Scissorfish , an electic zine of bits and bobs. Worth a look. It’s hard to write scintillating zine descriptions at 1 in the morning.
Salon’s been delisted from the Nasdaq. Boo.
Strange emails part 34: I really have to start a page on Spike that lists all the odd emails I’ve received over the years. You wouldn’t believe the amount of people that think I’m Spike Lee. Which goes to prove the Web is writing for people who can’t read. (A prize for anyone who knows the source of that quip). The latest one is a response to the opening of Chris Hall’s overview of JG Ballard, Extreme Metaphor - “tectonic plates don’t glide, it’s entirely against their nature, but grinding’s o.k, although this suggests you can see, or possibly hear what’s going on. i bet you like to see and hear, without taking part, you’re dirty.”
Christ.
Spike might be featured on that 3-in-the-morning-you’re-too-drunk-to-care-what-you’re-watching programme The Web Review. Here’s hoping I’m in that state if I see it. But for now - goodnight.
