Chomsky on Terror
Chelsea Clinton, posing as a student in Oxford, has been quoted as saying that her “mind boggles” when she hears non-Amercians saying her country has joined this war �capriciously�. Perhaps instead she should have gone to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and studied under Noam Chomsky. Read, or listen to, this recent talk given before his fellow Americans. It is worth it as he is able to provide ample evidence for his logical deconstruction of all the hype surrounding the �war on terrorism�. However, before that, he explains that the talk is NOT for those people who do not assume two things. And here I am quoting him:
“1: The first one is just what I assume to be recognition of fact. That is that the events of September 11 were a horrendous atrocity, probably the most devastating instant human toll of any crime in history, outside of war.
2: The second assumption has to do with the goals. I�m assuming that our goal is that we are interested in reducing the likelihood of such crimes whether they are against us or against someone else”
The talk proceeds from these two assumptions. Whether you agree with him or not, you are compelled to answer with as much logic and evidence rather than relying on emotional blackmail, or arrogant stupidity, as in the case of Wag-the-Dog�s daughter.
