Krapp on Channel 4
At last Channel 4 are continuing with the Beckett on Film series. We must still be in autumn, as C4 announced the series would continue then. But I suppose we shouldn�t be churlish. On Saturday evening, John Hurt stars in Krapp’s Last Tape, the story of an elderly man playing spools of tape from 30 years before in which he records his thoughts and opinions. The script can be found online. It takes a few minutes to read but an hour to perform.
The film�s director is Atom Egoyan. Years ago, late at night on C4, I caught his early film Calendar, and loved it. In this interview he reveals how Beckett influenced him.
