From One Catastrophe to Another

The new, burgeoning In Writing website has added a funny and moving interview with Thomas Bernhard translated by Anja Zeidler. A typical instance of Bernhards attitude comes when he is asked if he believes in life after death: No. Thank God” he says. “Life is wonderful. But the best thought is that when it ends, it’s forever.

Today I discovered a site called Dante and Others. It offers free downloads of translations of famous works, including a prose version of the entire Divine Comedy, as well as Ovid, Lorca, Rilke, Mandelstam, Petrarch, and Baudelaire, among others.

Finally, the BBC Radio 3 Nightwaves site has a new set of questions for this months competition. In a blog last month, I complained that I hadnt won before. Last week, however, a catalogue/book called German Art for Russian Imperial Palaces 1800-1850 arrived in the post. It was the prize for winning. Smug City! This months prize includes books by Francis Fukuyama, Linda Grant and the embarrassing Maya Angelou. I pass.
