Another appeal for audiences to be in book-related programming - contact details at the bottom and some worthwhile events to attend. Here's the press release:
BBC 4 Readers & Writers Roadshow
The BBC?s biggest literature show needs YOUR participation! Readers & Writers Roadshow is a panel book show from BBC, broadcasting on the BBC4 television channel. Drawing from today?s best writers, we broadcast from a different location each week as authors discuss their work and writing in general with a group of readers like yourself!
The Roadshow is coming to Edinburgh International Book Festival on the 10th-11th August and the 24th-25th August to record several programmes and we would like to hear from you if you are interested in taking part.
All participants will receive one of the authors? books with our compliments and all events are free of charge.
Joyce Carol Oates & Ali Smith 10th August, 1.30pm
Joyce Carol Oates, twice nominated for the Nobel prize, is one of the most prolific and renowned of contemporary American writers. Her latest novel, Middle Age, is a comic view of present day America. She is joined by Ali Smith, Booker and Orange prize shortlisted for Hotel World, a perceptive character study of five guests in a hotel.
Eoin Colfer
10th August, 6pm
Readers & Writers Roadshow is proud to welcome renowned author Eoin Colfer for a special on his work, focusing on his most famous creation, the child criminal mastermind, Artemis Fowl. In his latest book, Artemis Fowl: The Arctic Incident, our anti-hero is still on the trail of his kidnapped father. We would like to invite both adults and children aged 9 and over to take part in this event.
Tariq Ali, Laura Blumenfeld & Kamila Shamsie
11th August, 3pm
Tariq Ali is a renowned international commentator. His latest book, The Clash of Fundamentalisms is a typically outspoken work, denouncing both east and west in relation to the events of September 11th. Joining him is rising star Kamila Shamsie, selected as one of the 21 writers for the 21st century by Orange futures, with her latest book, Kartography, a love song to her home town, Karachi. Completing the panel is Laura Blumenfeld, Jewish-American author of Revenge, a personal account of her search for the terrorist who shot her father in Jerusalem.
Irvine Welsh & Alan Warner
24th August, 11am
Irvine Welsh found international acclaim with Trainspotting, the novel that inspired the equally successful film. In his latest, Porno, he returns to the familiar characters of Renton, Sickboy and Begbie, joining them 10 years on. With Irvine on the panel is author Alan Warner. After exploding onto the scene with Morvern Callar in 1996, Warner has went from strength to strength. His latest, The Man Who Walked, is a drug-fuelled near hallucinogenic view of Scotland as a motley crew pursue ?the man who walked? to recover the stolen funds from their local pub?s world cup kitty.
Iain Banks
24th August, 3pm
Iain Banks needs no introduction, particularly in Edinburgh. Famed both as a general fiction author and, under Iain M. Banks, as a science fiction author, we are pleased to offer places for a special on the man and his work. His latest Dead Air will be published in September and we have advance copies to give away.
Kathy Reichs & Mark Billingham
25th August, 11am
Kathy Reichs, author of Grave Secrets, is one of America? best selling novelists. The Sunday Times says, ?inevitably compared with Patricia Cornwell, Reichs is actually in a different league?. In a rare visit to Britain, she is joined by rising star of British crime fiction and stand-up comedian, Mark Billingham. His latest book, Scaredy Cat is a terrifying account of two serial killers working in tandem.
Sandi Toksvig & Alice Thompson
25th August, 3pm
Sandi Toksvig, comedienne, broadcaster and author discusses her new book, The Gladys Society, relating her search in America for her friends and classmates from her teenage years. Joining Sandi is novelist Alice Thompson with her most recent book, Pharos, the story of a young woman, washed up at a remote lighthouse, with no recollection of who she is or how she got there.
