die puny humans
Last night there was a birthday bash for Cliterati, the women’s dirty stories site that’s now a year old. The party was sponsored by Lovehoney sex toys, which is run by a couple of mates of mine - hence how I got the invitation. (Yes, I know - I have friends that make a living selling dildos. It could be my next career move). Most people I mentioned the party to immediately had visions of orgiastic excess - not much of that going on, but a good time was had by all. Had a few drinks to pluck up the courage to go and talk to some of the lovely strangers passing through, only to discover I’d had a few drinks too many and was pretty much incapable of talking to anyone. Drooling is not terribly attractive.
Meanwhile, Transmetropolitan creator Warren Ellis has started his own blog in which “to dump all his brain shit”. diepunyhumans will very probably be worth checking regularly, as is Ellis’ almost daily email, Bad Signal - lots of near-incomprehensible industry talk about comics but also lots of great stuff about writing and just about everything else. WE has the truly journalistic talent of being able to make virtually anything interesting to read about by dint of his writing style and sheer passion. He swears a fair bit too, which is also good.
Speaking of which, Viz are releasing a hardback edition of Roger’s Profanisaurus in October - over 4000 expletives, innuendoes and obscenities listed and lovingly defined. What the English language was designed to do.
