Freedom

Today, on a whim, I bought J Mascis’ new LP Free So Free. The first song Freedom (you can play a sample from the link) is just so good; dare I say life-affirming? (In a Nietzschean sense that is). I heard an interview with the man himself and was delighted and surprised to be told that his two hobbies outside music are golf and sky-diving. Apparently he composes as he plummets. Listening to Freedom, one senses that the use and abuse of gravity is, indeed, a sublime thrill.

Just like golf then. If you’re the ball.
