A Given Moment
With the upcoming war to control oil supplies in the Middle East, the Fire This Time website is a timely discovery. Not quite sure what the music angle is ? possibly a record released at the time of Bush Mk I's Gulf War - but there are loads of links to articles by those informed on the subject at hand.
Two things stand out: first, the prominent quotation on the homepage from Arthur Miller: "Few of us can easily surrender our belief that society must somehow make sense. The thought that the state has lost its? mind is intolerable, and so the evidence has to be internally denied." And second, the two extraordinary photographs at the bottom of the same page; in a word, chilling.
Also, check out this old, yet devastating story from ABC News that seems to have fallen still born from the press: "In the early 1960s, America's top military leaders reportedly drafted plans to kill innocent people and commit acts of terrorism in U.S. cities to create public support for a war against Cuba." It arises from James Bamford?s book Body of Secrets. This rather substantiates Miller's quotation and the final one on Fire This Time's homepage, from Orwell: "At any given moment, there is a sort of all pervading orthodoxy, a general tacit agreement not to discuss large and uncomfortable facts." I'll leave it at that.
