Master and Everyone

Written by:Stephen Mitchelmore.

The barrage of new records by great US singer songwriters continues. In the last couple of months, we’ve had Laura Cantrell, J Mascis and Bill Callahan, both mentioned below, and now comes the greatest of them all, also mentioned below, Bonnie Prince Billy. He releases Master and Everyone late next month. Of course, I get this information from Amazon and from the best fan site rather than the record company, Domino; one searches their website in vain. Maybe the confusion over the title is the reason - it has also been referred to as “It’s Expected I’m Gone”. However, in the past, Ive heard his first champion John Peel complain of Domino’s apparently slack marketing despite their magnificent list. He never did play anything from Arise, Therefore or Joya, as if he’d not heard of either. And it wasn’t because he didn’t like the records, because, not only does he play more or less everything he finds by BPB, when one of Joya’s minor tracks appeared on a compilation, he played it a number of times.
