Just Tony
Right now, I am reading a Just William story by Richmal Crompton. William has suddenly found himself alone in a sweetshop. He is trying to convince in-coming customers and himself that he’s in charge. The sweets in his gob tend to muffle his words however. Still, he half succeeds. Crompton explains: “It is a great gift to be able to lie so as to convince other people. It is a still greater gift to be able to lie so as to convince oneself. William was possessed of the latter gift.”
I wonder what William did in later life? Changed his name to “Tony Blair” perhaps?
