Cambodia uber alles
Recently I travelled through Cambodia and Vietnam. Both are fascinating countries to visit, and both are badly suffering from the recent SARS hysteria, especially Cambodia - tourist numbers are said to be down by as much as 40%. Both countries are SARS free and now is an ideal time to visit if you want to get away from the rest of the tourist hordes - Angkor Wat in Cambodia is practically deserted at the moment. Good news for visitors, bad news for all the locals that rely on the tourist trade.
I've put together a couple of pages of travel notes about each country, which are simple addendums to the usual things you find in guidebooks - decent hotels, restaurants etc that we found and sampled first hand. If you're travelling to either Vietnam or Cambodia in the next few months, you might them useful. The Vietnam one is here and the Cambodia one here. I'm hoping to expand this into a full blown section of its own soon. Possibly.
I've also knocked out a review of Bill Bryson's Mother Tongue here.
