So …
The Guardian has published extracts from the secret session of the Foreign Affairs Committee’s shameless interrogation of Andrew Gilligan, the sacrifice offered at the state altar to pay for the BBC’s attempt at impartiality. It is a shocking example of the moral and intellectual paucity of our elected representatives. Their abuse of Gilligan’s honesty is perverse. The journalist’s inference of what Kelly told him is incontrovertibly sensible and impartial. Who misled the whole world Mr Illsley?
MPs Stanley and Illsley Tory and New Labour respectively might attract the term “semi-literate” for their twisting of the truth, but, presumably because it was in secret session, they are protected from rebuke from those concerned with the niceties of public discourse. No wonder they were keen to give openness a rest.
