Coetzee gets Wood

James Wood's impressive review, in the new edition of the LRB, of JM Coetzee's new novel is worth a read. "Coetzee achieves in his prose through rhythm rather than ornament" he writes. This is a nice way to express my own dissatisfaction with a lot of British and American prose which relies too heavily on ornament. All is rhythm!
