Moby Dick
In MobyLives' letters page, an indignant correspondent complains about Harold Bloom's appalled response to the JK Rowling oeuvre and defends his charge that such writers do not contribute to the betterment of humanity:
"I am a writer because of Stephen King. [...] So don't tell me his work hasn't done anything to better humanity; it bettered my humanity. I am a writer because of Stephen King, I am a writer because of Ernest Hemingway, I am a writer because of Maurice Sendak, I am a writer because of Laurie Colwin, I am... You get the point."
Yeah, I do: they're all crap.
