Valry the thinker

Written by:Stephen Mitchelmore.

Gabriel Josipovici makes some interesting observations about the difference between continental European and British thought in his TLS review of the new translations of Paul Valry’s Cahiers (a much more attractive word than Notebooks). But these comments come after the TLS’ extract ends, and I can’t be bothered to copy them out. Maybe tomorrow.

These notebooks were composed in the early morning. A good time for thinking. It’s now a quarter to eleven at night, which is not, I think, almost.
