Nine Suitcases
In The Times, Ladislaus Lb, a professor at my old university (who tried to put me off doing an MA, I seem to remember!), tells how he came to publish a translation of a Holocaust memoir by a Hungarian writer with whom he shared a train containing “1,368 Hungarian Jewish men, women and children, who had just spent five months in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp”.
It’s called Nine Suitcases, and is by Bla Zsolt.
