Getting mouldy

Written by:Stephen Mitchelmore.

In an entertaining if an inevitably-not-terribly-enlightening interview, Will Oldham speaks of the influence of Hsker D and asks “Where is Bob Mould now?” Well, he’s right here. He also speaks about his love of surfing, which might explain the anecdote I was told of the other day:

A couple of years ago at All Tomorrow’s Parties, Will Oldham, who had been wandering slowly about the festival in his flip flops and beard all weekend, watched some friends and me on the dance machine in the arcade. I don’t know if you’ve seen them, but they tell you where to put your feet in order to dance to various horrible dance tunes. It’s really difficult to do, even on the lowest level. Anyway, after we’d finished, we turned back to see that Will Oldham had got onto the machine. He put it on top speed on the hardest trance-like tune, and danced absolutely perfectly with his feet moving so fast I don’t know how he managed to keep standing, never mind keep his face straight. It was brilliant. He scored an ‘A’, and then sauntered off towards the hot dog stand completely calm.”
