No top ten
The excellent Beatrice links to another blogs compilation of various literary folks’ top ten novels. What shocks me is that not only is there not one novel I’d also choose, but there is only one author mentioned that would be on my list, though not the specific novel (Saul Bellow and Herzog). I’m not going to list my own as I’m sure most regular readers will be familiar with my own preferences (Bernhard etc). Actually, I struggled to list ten that meant enough to me. I need one more. I hope it’s going to be Gert Hofmann’s Lichtenberg and the Little Flower Girl out in just over two weeks. I’m counting the days.
