Abide with me
Watching the Cup Final as I write this. They've spoiled the communal singing by adopting the US tradition of getting some freak to sing the anthems instead. For non-UK readers, every Cup Final is preceded by a rendition of the Victorian hymn Abide with Me (the site has sound, so you can sing along yourself). Yet even those with an encyclopaedic knowledge of Cup history (like me!) might be surprised by the lyrics:
Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.
And that's just the first verse. Millwall's defence was pretty helpless just now.
