Lianne Hall

Written by:Stephen Mitchelmore.

I’m so pleased to have found Lianne Hall’s website, even if it looks like it’s been designed and built within thirty minutes! I’d only ever heard her music over the radio, in those moments when everything stops and you ask: wow, what’s this?

I’m so pleased because there are two mp3s available for free download, both substantiating, in such a pleasurable way, John Peel’s opinion that Lianne’s is “one of the great English voices”. Go for “Abandon Ship” first.

The site also reveals that she is studying at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music, which, it so happens, I walk by each day on the way into town. There are always dozens of self-conscious middle-class teenagers hanging around with expensive guitars strapped to their backs. They have a star in their midst.
