Rayford Steele?
Those of us on the saner side of the Atlantic - we’re closer to France and Germany after all - haven’t had much detail about the Left Behind series (a title, incidentally, that always confuses me as it’s perennially used by sub-editors to head articles claiming left wing politicians are behind the times). Christopher Tayler fills us in with this gob-smacking summary of its nuttiness. One’s jaw drops at the line “Over the next eleven volumes of the series…”. He’s read them?
OK, so I can take the possibility of Jesus having lived a life like the Gospels says he did, and I can accept for the brief time of reading that there is transcendence of the God kind - that is perhaps what reading is after all: transcendence - but I can’t believe that there’s a 747 pilot called Rayford Steele. I mean, come on.
