Writers wanted

Written by:Chris Mitchell.

Two requests for contributions:

Student Focus Ltd is releasing a new monthly magazine to keep Scottish students up to date with what is going on around them. For every article we publish the writer will receive 20. The magazine will run for 8 issues and hopes to be highly successful in both Dundee and St Andrews. There are several articles we would like people to get involved with ranging from student issues to popular culture. This is a unique opportunity for aspiring writers to get some, well deserved, publicity. Email: info@studentfocus.co.uk - Web: www.studentfocus.co.uk

And this:

We are currently working on a book of hitch-hiking anecdotes, views and observations written by contributors from all walks of life. This collection aims to document the varied experiences of hitch-hikers and those giving lifts in order that an exemplary record can be established for general publication.

It is clear that hitch-hiking enabled a great number of people, particularly young people, to travel great distances for free, expand their minds and interact with others before the advent of cheap air travel and mass tourism.

Moreover, given that transport issues are today of great importance, more public knowledge of this almost defunct activity may be illuminating and even inspiring. We have already received contributions from a diverse group of individuals including Arnold Wesker, Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Steven Pinker, Alistair Campbell, Sir Max Hastings, Jeremy Vine, George Monbiot, Annie Nightingale, Nigel West, Will Durst and Lembit Opik MP, intent from Sir Alan Parker, Doug Stanhope, Tony Hawks, Peter Tatchell, Loudon Wainwright, David Nobbs, Michael Rosen, Jeffrey Lewis, Dave Douglass and Mike Leigh and significant interest from Country Joe MacDonald, Will Self, Bill Bryson and Noam Chomsky.

With all this in mind, we write to ask if you would consider freely contributing an anecdote or view, however long or short, by mid-July for publication in due course. Should you choose to contribute, we will be in touch with you again to request your permission to use your piece. We will give every contributor a free copy of the book on publication.
