Just to see you smile

Written by:Stephen Mitchelmore.

Strange morning. I have (or had) two mp3 files with three minutes of music each, followed by three minutes (each) of silence. What’s that all about? Anyway, I wanted to send them to a friend but without the silence. So I googled for an mp3 editor, and got the first one on the list: Wavepad. Sorted.

Or so I thought.  Due to a lack of any clear instruction, I used the program with a technophobe’s uncertain faith in intuition (otherwise known as user friendly design). Once the editing was done, I hit “save” and the progress bar skipped happily from left to right. However, an error message appeared saying something about the bitrate not being legal (or something) and to choose another. WTF? And so I lost the file. It’s gorne.

But still my faith persists. I’m using Soulseek to get another copy. There are problems with this though. Twice during use of the program, it has hung. As I was editing a Word doc at the time, I closed it down, thus saving it before I rebooted. Or so I thought. On reboot, the document was as it was before the editing. As I say, this has happened twice. And what am I doing now? Yes, downloading the file whilst rewriting a most important document. I’ll be voting New Labour next.

PS Nice to see Chris posting again. You can tell it’s him cos there’s a space at the bottom of the post. :)
