New Arrivals
Those terribly nice people at Akashic Books have sent me three intriguing titles which you should check out immediately on their site or through Amazon: The Five Biggest Lies Bush Told Us About Iraq, a concise and direct recap of the thoroughly spurious reasons used to initiate the war; It’s A Free Country: Personal Freedom In America After September 11, an anthology of essays concerning the wilful erosion of liberty post-911, featuring Michael Moore, Matt Groening and a host of others; and Falun Gong’s Challenge To China, an analysis of the spiritual movement that has been condemned as a cult by Chinese leaders and viciously suppressed. It’s great to see such focussed books being published - here’s to them getting the biggest audience possible.
Also newly arrived at spike’s island lair is Carl Melcher Goes To Vietnam, a novel by Paul Clayton which portrays an innocent abroad in Vietnam. Originally published as an ebook, Clayton’s novel won accolades at the Frankfurt book fair and has been subsequently been put out by St Martin’s Press.
