The poet who lost his head

No, sadly Ian McMillan isn’t a hostage in Fallujah (but if he was, it would one good reason, Mr Blair, for not withdrawing the troops). Instead, the title refers to Radio 3’s programme on Francis Petrarch tonight at 2130, marking the 700th anniversary of his death. The page says he “established the language for European love poetry.” You can hear the programme online of course. Should be a Laura, Laura laughs.
