My villa in the south of France
The Observer has an oddly stimulating collection of pieces by various writers - though they’re all the same really - about their means of getting-away-from-it-all in order to write. AS Byatt’s Gallic retreat has me daydreaming. And that’s what these page-fillers are designed to enable, I presume. However, all I have to do to get-away-from-it-all is to switch this PC off and sit in the glorious, humless silence. But then I can’t write.
