take a stroll down Charlotte Street. It is an excellent blog. Today, Mark Kaplan demolishes Johann Hari's disgraceful piece "on" Derrida.
I wish Hari could pay for this profoundly incompetent and insulting piece. He should not be safe to influence so many with this pernicious ignorance. Unfortunately, print columnists seem to strengthen their powerful and lucrative jobs by, as Mark puts it, "repeating prefabricated banalities and in general gauchely and gormlessly exhibiting [their] own intellectual illiteracy". But even if Hari was relieved of his duties, there'd still be David Aaronovitch (who has also soiled books with his now-defunct TV show), Clive James and Lord Haw-Haw himself, the execrable Mark Steyn. And that's just the posh papers.
PS I hope to write about my own understanding of Derrida at This Space over the weekend.
