Hello My Big Big Honey!

...is the title of a book I see in virtually every English language bookstore in Thailand. It's a mixture of interviews with, and love letters to, Thai bar girls, showing the complexities and emotional attachment that often occurs between those farang who frequent these bars and the girls themselves. It's written by Richard S. Ehrlich, a long time Asia correspondent and was published back in 2000 - there's a slew of favourable reviews from Time and the like featured on his website reviews page. Fascinating stuff.

Asia Books has the monopoly on English language book distribution here in Thailand, both importing and publishing titles. They retail for about hte same price as in the UK, which makes books a comparatively expensive luxury out here. Asia Books' extensive section on Thailand gives some great pointers on Thai culture and history that would make worthwhile reading before a visit here.
