Post, as in posthumous

Written by:Stephen Mitchelmore.

Eight days after saying they’d sent it, I’m still awaiting Campo Santo from Amazon UK. The good news is that from looking at Amazon DE I see that, as Campo Santo is available in German too, this might not be a magpie volume from Sebald’s three German essay collections yet to be translated: Die Beschreibung des Unglcks (I’d go for The Description of Unhappiness), Unheimliche Heimat ( Uncanny Homeland) and Logis in einem Landhaus (Something in Country House?). I hope this is the case as there are essays untranslated that demand it. The one on Peter Handke’s Repetition for example: a novel about one man’s journey into another country and his discovery of literature. What could be more Sebaldian?
