Things, merely

As you can tell by my Current Reading, Secker & Warburg have got Tim Parks' Rapids to me. Must have got stuck in some reeds. It isn't listed on Amazon US, so I presume it's not available there yet. Parks is a regular in the NYRB, so I imagine it will appear over there soon enough.

Another book with Anglo-American connections is also out now. That is, young British philosopher Simon Critchley's book on Wallace Stevens - Things Merely Are: Philosophy in the Poetry of Wallace Stevens. It's good to see a book being published by a philosopher that isn't some dry treatise on Kripke or, on the other hand, something trying to be 'the new Alain de Botton', as if the old one isn't bad enough.

Talking of philosophy, a friend told me that, according to Feng Shui - which some might call a philosophy (but isn't Philosophy) - living on a crossroads, which I do, causes lots of conflicting energy. Oh, bad news! I laughed. So I thumped her.
