Amazon Buys BookSurge Publish On Demand Company

Max Hasting writes about Amazon buying print-on-demand publishing company BookSurge. This could open up POD completely - if the cost of publishing is reduced to virtually zero through digitalising the whole process, then the amount that can come into print - and the profit Amazon can make from selling to niche markets - becomes infinite. No warehousing, no inventory, no returns - nothing.

Most books don't sell more than a couple thousand anyway - a well-motivated self-publisher can do better than that if he has a half-decent book and an understanding of his audience. (My dad, bless him, wrote and self published not one but two books on shipwrecks around the Devon coast - and sold 5000 copies of each. How more niche do you want? See his site submerged.co.uk for more info). But, as Hastings points out, a major player like Amazon stepping into the POD market has the potential to create a vast archive of memory and memorabilia through amateur autobiography. While most of these books may well be largely awful, they could well still contain several useful passages - and the movement of internet search means it won't be difficult to find them.

It's late and I'm struggling to write with any insight, but there seems to be a quantum leap in the amount of information we can access, and, crucially, we gather, waiting round the corner. The web has unarguably spurred literacy - blogging by itself brings millions to the keyboard every day - we will have more people recording more about our lives and more ways to cut a swathe through the information and discover more about ourselves. There will be more literacy but less real literature.

I don't actually know what that last sentence means, but it sounds good.

RE: PROPOSITION FOR COLLABORATION AND SUBMISSION

Hope this massage will be fully requested for. I thank you in advance.

Dear Publish Author Editor / Representative

I am Lyric Writer for pop – rock and pop music style, also with experience in rep and hip-hop. Lyrics are easy, touchy, lovable, written by person that believes in Globalism from positive point of view and further more, believe in New World. By reading some of my lyrics it could be recognized.

Surfing trough Internet I’ve so that Rolling Stones issued a book of their lyrics and it was successfully. This gave me idea that it could be a new trend for lyric writers. Reason for making this e-mail letter is proposition to collaborate on such project. From childhood I’m writing lyrics. In 1970tis and 1980tis some of them became global hits. My honesty, some managers and singers misused it in past using me as co-writer. That is a reason that I do my own marketing. Also my work is solicitude in this Country, Serbija (Southeast Europe) as well as in Us, coming from legal issues between these two countries. Among Serbia I also lived in Canada, for about 9 years.

Usually in past I’ve send lyrics to music magazines due to advertisement in them. Later on, a year later, or so on, I’ve recognized my work. My opinion is that managers are more often forgetting who was a lyric writer on new projects, on purpose or not, it is up to them.

So my work ended on repertoire that belongs to Michel Bolton (“How am I supposed to live without you”…), Julio Iglesias (“Spanish Girl”…), Madonna (“Who’s That Girl”, “”Cherish”, “Can’t Stop”, “Angel”…), Sting (“Every breath you take”, “Roxan”), Rod Stewart, Brian Adams (“Please forgive me” …) Wily Smith, Bruce Willis (“White Swan”). All of the hits belong to 1980tis and beginning of 1990tis. Some of Rolling Stones hits belong to late 1970tis.

In 1990tis I’ve respond to ad for lyrics due to motion picture “Titanic”. (At that time I lived in Canada, 1989-97). Title for the lyric was “My hart will go on” singed by Celin Dione. That was first time that I’ve receive contract for my lyric, but at the same time, me and my ex husband ware helping my cousin and his family to settle down in Canada. They lived with us one to two months. His 4 year daughter mad the chart on contract papers. Instead of telling me about it, my cousin, throw the paper in garbage, including address and contact names. It seemed to me, that dose not meant to be.

That heart wary much so and I stooped writing lyrics for some time. But I never could give up of my old and new lyrics. Wounds are hard, but I hilled them and I’m ready to go on.

Last year I had to clean my old cabinet / drawer and surprisingly I found one “anonymous” letter and non anonymous postcard. Both of them are from 1980tis. Letter is written by Wily Smith, actor and musician (in his early carrier he was Rep Musician) and postcard is written by Valchirie Gulie. (I can not recall who is he? Composer? I do not know.) Such discovery encouraged me to write this proposition. My tensions are to collaborate with publishers that support solicitude work. Also when it is needed, I’ll accept co-writing help.

I have 49 new lyrics which would like to publish in one collection book of lyrics. Please, consider this letter / mail as proposition for collaboration with you and find attached 49 titles including widely known “Tsunami” lyric.

Sometimes is good to refresh collaboration with some one new / new artist from other culture. (Work with artist that accepts, in full, multiculturalism.)

Best buyers for this type of book are those once that attend music events, ore those once that loves music.

Looking forward to hear from you I remain.

This is not something to do,
to dose that are in love.

    That should not be done,
    to our children,
    to our beloved once.
They have a right on love.

Thousands of them lost they are live,
in catastrophes that not so pos to happen,
on this Planet, on the Earth,
    only Planet for us.

    Never, never dear Good,
that not so pos to be done:
    earthquakes and other catastrophes.
Save us. Mostly save our children.

It is a pain, to feel it.
It is a pain, to see it.
Paine is deep. Paine is every where,
    when it happenings.

In our harts, in our minds,
in our homes, in our lives.
    There, where human mind
    could not pass it.
    Paine is every where.
