Secondhand Passion
Bangkok remainder bins brought me these today:
Frank Lloyd Wright: Collected Writings Vol 3 - New York’s Guggeheim Museum is one of my favourite buildings on earth. I’ve seen virtually nothing else of Wright’s work, but thanks to my parents I haven’t been able to stop humming that bastard Simon And Garfunkel song all day
Titanic And The Making Of James Cameron - Titanic may have been godawful watery grave pr0n for the masses, but Mr Cameron has acquitted himself since with his abiding interest in the Titanic’s real life remains and his pioneering exploration of the depths of the oceans. (See the issue of Wired he guest edited a few months ago for more). And, irrespective of whether Titanic was dross or not, its making promises to be great film drama from a backstage perspective. I’m a sucker for all that stuff.
“Good Housekeeping”: Every Home Should Have One: Seventy Five Years of Change in the Home - I bought this large hardback as an ironic and kitsch joke for Lindy, given that she once won a “Future Homemaker Of America” award whilst at school. In retrospect I suppose I’m lucky she didn’t beat me to death with it - in a suitably ironic and kitsch manner, natch.
