Nick Hornby meets Irvine Welsh?

Following on from my post about authors taking promotion duties seriously, I just got word about Kevin O'Hara's debut novel, the catalogue filing nightmare that is ...Tell Someone?

It's apparently a novel revolving around football which also has Irvine Welsh's influence running through it = it's pretty inevitable that more and more books influenced by Welsh's style and success are going to start coming out. ...Tell Someone? has already had a thumbs-up from the local press and best-selling Just A Boy author Richard McCann. In his email, O'Hara says he's managed to shift 1400 copies of the book so far since last Christmas - it's self-published - and he's starting to get some "superb feedback" from literary agents.

Which, irrespective of the merits of the novel itself, is a great example of publishing on your own terms and creating a buzz to get a better deal from the big publishing houses.

There's a brief page of info along with ordering info at the holding site, tellsomeone.org.uk. The book' s only available thru the site and selected WHSmiths apparently.
