Peter Saville

The Guardian profiles graphic design guru Peter Saville:

"The consumer is being manipulated as an addict," reckons Saville. "To me, pop culture's gone from being acid to crack. When people took acid in the 1970s it was likely to be a mind-expanding slightly dangerous thing but they came away from it thinking, 'Well I never saw it like that before.' As opposed to crack, which will drain everything you've got until you're dead. And there's a big difference between introducing someone to acid 25 years ago and dealing them some crack today, and I don't like being part of that system."

Let me get this right: isn’t Peter Saville the same guy whoring for Sony?

They’re leaving these big ugly guitar-things all over London as some kind of promotional deal, and Saville’s designed about 50 of them.

    Nice crack, Pete.

Yes, my primary interest in Saville is as an amusingly conceited figure. I’m sure the soundbites work better when divorced from the designs themselves.

The Sony guitars obviously try to push the product as violently and loudly as possible. O, the quiet flatness of the album sleeve…
