Books from the USA
Two intriguing books in the post for me this week. Edges: O Israel O Palestine, by Leora Skolkin-Smith. It's a novel set in the Israel of the early '60s and features a 14-year-old visiting the home country after the suicide of her US American father. It is published by Glad Day Books. On Conversational Reading, the author writes of the background to the novel's publication.
And today, Lisa Williams? short book Letters to Virginia Woolf published by Hamilton Books: "a lyrical memoir and meditation on Woolf's life and writing. Starting with the events of 9/11, Williams examines Woolf's anti-war views and their relevance to our present time."
Coincidentally, my desktop wallpaper is a panorama of the Ouse valley taken on a hazy Saturday in July. On the right, the river, in which Woolf drowned, meanders into the distance.
