Lego Modern Art

First it was Bible stories told entirely in Lego, now it's modern art recreated using the Danish wonder brick. The Guardian yesterday carried an article about the Little Artists, who have fashioned iconic modern art masterpieces like Damien Hirst's formaldehyde shark and Dali's lobster telephone completely out of Lego. They are part of an exhibition called Art Craziest Nation which is on at Liverpool's Walker Gallery. The Guardian article in the newspaper had some great closeup photos of the Lego art: unfortunately, the online version carries only one small pic, and the Little Artists' own website is a Flash nightmare that has pretty poor pictures of their own work too. (To get to the Lego art, click the logo on entering, then mouse over the following museum graphic til you find Gallery 3). Even so, I wish I could see this for real. As with the Bible stories, there's more to Lego recreation than just kitsch comedy. I feel a thesis coming on...

UPDATE: There's an extensive collection of decent closeup photos of the artworks on the Walker Gallery site which I didn't spot before. (Thanks, Billy!)
