Angela Carter and "Justin Aveneer"

Written by:Chris Mitchell.

Recently I’ve been working on the website of Third Eye Books, a small publisher who recently published the novel Justin Aveneer. Justin has an interesting history behind it - written over 30 years ago, it’s “a dazzling inverted pastiche of De Sade set in a world where women treat men as work objects in all the ways that, historically, men have treated women as sex objects.”

What’s more, author Tony Crofts claims, without rancour, that there’s some interesting similarities between his own book and Angela Carter’s Passion Of New Eve. It makes his book a potential literary curio and one perhaps to be investigated in the groves of academe. I put a list of useful Angela Carter sites on the Third Eye site if you’re interested in reading more about her.
