Authors Guild vs Google Print

Google Print is being sued by the Authors Guild, for supposed "massive infringement of copyright". [See Google's take here, Boing Boing writeup here] Forget that Google's program protects books from copyright theft or, more importantly, it's designed to help people locate the books that might help them on a given subject with precision, thus boosting sales of obscure titles and back catalogues. Forget that the Google Print program is designed to actively help writers and bring them more readers and possibly more royalties instead. Forget that the one thing all writers need is more publicity and promotion of their books to readers who are interested in reading it. What do the Authors Guild do instead? Whine like bitches about the supposed infringement of their copyright so as to keep their precious books languishing in the obscurity they clearly deserve, because they're so devoid of intelligence that they couldn't see a gifthorse if it crapped in their mouths. These are probably the same people who were saying the internet is a threat to the printed word a decade ago. See you in the remainder shop.
