I'm getting more tha a bit tired of the legend of Thompson's heroism in the face of his apparently insufferable physical pain.

I was afflicted with rheumatoid arthritis at age eight. I had bilateral hip joint replacement surgery when I was 15-the youngest person in the United States to have the procedure at that time (1972). I suffer from Sjogren's Syndrome, my spine is fused, my left knee doesn't bend, etc.

Who's crying for poor widdle me? Not that I'm asking for anyone to. Just trying to put Thompson into perspective.
