Suicide: No Compromise

Listening to Goldfrapp's Supernature this morning, I was struck by how similar opening track and first single Ooh La La sounds like Suicide. Suicide being shagged by Blondie with TRex playing in the background, but Suicide none the less. It's that hypnotic drone-like synth sound that's at just the right pitch to punch you in the cerebral cortex.

Mmm, punching.

I suddenly got all nostalgic for Suicide and wondered what they were up to. First thought: Christ - I hope they're not dead. This site thankfully informed me that Alan Vega and Martin Rev (he of the wraparound shades and serial killer smile) are still alive and well and indeed, have still been gigging. (I wrote about seeing their spectacular gig at The Garage here previously. Which, now I've linked to it in the archives, makes me feel very old because it was 5 years ago).

But - this was the real moment of joy - I discovered a biography of Suicide came out earlier this year, called Suicide: No Compromise. It's published by SAF Publishing, who have a shedload of other interesting music biog books too, including Saint Morrissey. I will be sending them my best winning smile by email to try and get a review copy.
