Leigh of the Land
An interview with the ever wonderful and always irascible Mike Leigh in the Guardian today. It seems the National Film Theatre is showing a major retrospective of his work. All very well for Londoners, but I do wish some TV channel would show his films with more regularity for those of us who arent so blessed. There, thats my chippy northerner quotient used for the day.

Yes. ‘Naked’ is the best film ever made as far as I am concerned. And I am very concerned.

“Naked” is certainly one of the best films made in the past 20 years. I take it then that the Criterion DVD (which has an interesting commentary track that sorta reveals his working methods but not really) is unavailable in your region?

Too right. I think ‘Naked’ has been on TV just once. In the meantime, ‘The Fifth Element’ (also a great film) has been shown, oooo, at least 7,000 times.
